Setting Sail in Mount Pleasant: Yacht Firm’s Temporary Docking Plans

Mount Pleasant, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of Charleston, is known for its charming streets and picturesque waterways. Now, there’s a new addition on the horizon that could add a touch of maritime magic to the town’s landscape. Captains Choice Yachting, a reputable yacht business located on Lockwood Drive, is eagerly eyeing a prime spot along the bustling artery of Coleman Boulevard. However, there’s a twist in this nautical tale – they need the town’s approval to drop anchor temporarily.

The deal is set, but the ink is not dry yet. Captains Choice Yachting has inked a short-term lease agreement with Coleman Holdings, the owner of the property at 415 W. Coleman Blvd., formerly a wrecker service site. Their plan is to use this site to sell and store boats on a temporary basis while the wheels of redevelopment turn through the gears of the government approval process.

However, there’s a pivotal catch – the green light for this idea depends on the approval of the town’s Board of Zoning Appeals. They will be weighing in on the request for a special exception that would permit outdoor storage and display of boats, with the hearing scheduled for October 30.

The chosen location is sandwiched between the popular Vicious Biscuit restaurant and Peach Orchard Plaza. The property owner has long-term plans to redevelop the site, and Captains Choice Yachting intends to make a smooth exit when that exciting development project takes off.

But what exactly is in store for this temporarily designated plot of land? Captains Choice Yachting envisions transforming what they describe as a “property in a state of dilapidation.” Their vision includes tidying up an unauthorized construction dump site in the rear, creating a space to display high-end boats on trailers, all of which will be artfully enclosed by a fence. If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of these aquatic beauties, viewing will be by appointment only.

Here’s the exciting part: the boat business is offering to demolish the building near the street and an old three-bay shop in the rear, all while ensuring the site remains well-kept. No trees will be removed, and the property’s perimeter will be graced by a proposed fence. To maintain order and accessibility, they’ve planned an entrance through a gate set back 75 feet from the road. This not only offers convenience but also allows space for parking and maneuvering boats on and off the site.

Captains Choice Yachting is no ordinary yacht business. They are seasoned experts in managing private motor yachts and offer Albury Brothers boats for sale. Additionally, they broker high-end, tailor-made boats for their clients, bringing a touch of luxury and elegance to the waves.

As the town of Mount Pleasant considers this proposal, residents and boating enthusiasts alike eagerly await the decision that could bring a temporary splash of maritime flair to the town’s bustling Coleman Boulevard. Stay tuned as we keep our eyes on the horizon for updates on this exciting development.
